Some of the potential contaminants of concern are listed below, along with the sources of each and
their their potential health effects.
Contaminant
Chlorine
Source
Health Effect
Purposely put into water by water
treatment plants for disinfection.
Can cause bad taste and odour.
Lead
Lead can enter your water from
lead plumbing, lead solder and
brass alloy taps.
Lead can interfere with red blood
cells, delay physical and mental
development in babies and
children, increase blood pressure
and damage kidneys in adults.
Cysts
(Cryptosporidium
& Giardia)
Main source is from animal faeces
containing the cysts. Run off
carries cysts into lakes and rivers.
A hard shell protects these micro-
organisms from the chlorine
disinfection.
Cysts can cause acute flu like
symptoms that can last one to
three weeks in healthy adults.
Effects on children or the elderly
can be more serious and life
threatening for those with
suppressed immune systems such
as cancer patients or HIV/Aids
patients.
Lindane
(a common
pesticide)
Chemicals can soak through the
soil into ground water, or can be
carried into lakes and rivers by
rainwater run off.
Lindane has been shown to
damage liver, kidney, nervous
system and immune system in lab
animals. At high levels, it has
caused nervous and circulatory
system damage in humans.
Atrazine
(a common
herbicide)
Atrazine has been shown to affect
the hearts and babies of lab
animals.
Mercury
Mercury can get into the water
supply as a result of improper
waste disposal.
Mercury that at high levels has
been shown to damage kidneys of
lab animals.

Using your Pure Source Water Filter System.
Before using your Sunbeam Pure Source Water
Filter System.
automatically shut off when the jug is empty. It
is normal for a small amount of unfiltered water
to remain in the bottom of the water jug.
Carefully unpack the appliance and check that
all components listed are included.
Note: During the flushing process, the appliance
may splutter as the air inside the filter is
replaced by water. You will notice a change in
the filtering noise when the water jug is almost
empty.
Wash the water jug and lid with warm soapy
water then rinse thoroughly and dry.
Wipe the appliance over with a clean cloth or
paper towel.
Do not wipe the base with a used kitchen cloth,
because you could contaminate it with bacteria
Inserting the filter.
Remove the two red plugs from the new filter
tubes and make sure the black O-rings are
pushed into place on the tubes.

the rear of the unit facing you.
